How to use LumaWrap

It is genuinely a three-step device, but a few small things decide whether you get anything out of it.

Three steps: place on bare skin, press the button, twenty minutes and it switches off

Setting up, once

  • Unwrap it and plug the controller lead into the panel.
  • Plug the other end into the UK mains adaptor, or into a USB socket.
  • That is the setup. Nothing to charge, nothing to pair, no app.

Step 1 — place it on bare skin

The lit panel goes against skin. Roll a trouser leg up, lift a shirt, whatever is easiest. Fabric between the panel and you absorbs a large share of the light and is the most common reason people feel nothing.

Placement by area:

  • Knee: centre the panel below the kneecap, strap behind the joint. More on knees.
  • Lower back: around the waist, panel flat across the lowest part of the back. More on backs.
  • Hip: over the bony point on the side, lying on your other side. More on hips.
  • Shoulder: panel over the top and outer edge, strap under the armpit.
  • Elbow or hands: lay the wrap flat on a table and rest the joint on it.

Step 2 — press the power button

One press starts a session. The display shows the countdown. The M and T buttons adjust mode and time if you want them, but the default is the setting we recommend.

Step 3 — sit still for twenty minutes

You will feel a gentle warmth build within a couple of minutes. At the end of twenty minutes the panel switches itself off. Unstrap it, and that is the day done.

Building the habit

Pair it with something you already do daily — the evening news, the crossword, the first cup of tea. Daily use for four to six weeks is what produces the change people write to us about; three sessions a week generally does not.

Mistakes that stop it working

  • Using it over clothing
  • Moving it to a different joint every day instead of sticking with one
  • Stopping at day ten because nothing has happened yet
  • Running it for an hour in the hope of speeding things up

Care and cleaning

Wipe the panel with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully. Do not immerse it or put it in the washing machine. Unplug it when it is not in use.

Common questions

How long is a LumaWrap session?+

Twenty minutes. The controller counts down and switches the panel off by itself.

What time of day is best?+

Whichever time you will actually keep to. Many people do it in the evening in front of the television because sitting still for twenty minutes is easiest then.

Can I use it twice a day?+

There is no benefit in doing so. One twenty-minute session a day on the same area is the routine we recommend.

Should I feel heat?+

A gentle warmth, yes, similar to a hot water bottle that has been on for a while. If it feels uncomfortably hot, take it off and email us.
